Over 1,300 Denholms books sold!

I cannot thank everyone enough for buying the Denholms book.  The two signings have been amazing, and it was such a pleasure to be able to speak with everyone in person and relive their days at Denholms.  I am constantly amazed how the store has lived on in peoples hearts for all of these years.  If you would still like to purchase a book, they are available at The Worcester Historical Museum as well as the Tatnuck Booksellers, as well as through the Historypress.net

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday, and warm wishes for the New Year!

  3. Hi, I bought this wonderful book at B&N-Millbury, as a Xmas present to myself. I am 56, but have wonderful memories of my first pair of gold pierced hoop earrings, coming down the escalator, like a fashion model! Thanks for bringing the memories of the elevator and Xmas in the city back! Will you have any more talks? Also, can we go in to Denholm's building? (Don't know if I should...)Lora from Sturbridge, MA

  4. Hi Lora! Thank you so much for buying the Denholms book. I am so glad it brought back nice memories for you. We are planning on having more talks, and are in discussions to do an event at the Worcester library as well as signings at some local Barnes and Noble store. I will keep everything posted on the blog for anyone who wants to attend. The Denholms building is open to the public, but it looks very different from what you remember. The building is in a need of an update, since it's present renovation in 1983, but the beautiful escalators are still there!!!
All my best to you and thank you again for posting on the blog.

  6. Hi Chris. It was great meeting you at Food For Thought Bookstore at the Worcester Free Public Library. and thanks for signing the books. After you left someone came and bought one of the copies. What you missed was that Denholms housed Albrizzio's lunch counter, a hair salon was next door and there was a music store all on the first floor. The next two floors were government offices and then there were the lawyers' offices. The whole north side area still holds old furniture from way back. There are some plans to do something with the building and one of the colleges is interested though, I don't know which one; All of them are rapidly expanding. As far as I know everything in the place still works. Its still fairly modern looking, has its windows and all and is in such a prime location. Worcester is on a building boom and you saw the old Galleria got torn down and Frtont street now runs through it to Worcester Center Blvd., across to the Union Station Circle across to Shrewsbury Street. Our city manager is leaving for greener pastures and we are voting on a new mayor and city council. We need a Ralph Lauren in Worcester or thereabouts. I don't think there is one anywhere near, but Boston. (Hey, I got an idea! Ralph? Denholm's? Together? Oh, who knows. Just a brain fart.) Keep in touch. We love you.

    1. James, it was such a pleasure to meet you and your wife. It made my day! I smiled all night and told Pat of my meeting with the two of you. I am holding out hope to return to the Worcester area. I love it, and it is home. I cannot believe another book sold. That is great news! I am trying to keep the memory of Denholms alive and hearing your wife's recollections on reenforces my goals. I will stop in the next time I am in Worcester and say hello.
