Here is a charming window display for the Millinery department which was then located on level two. The vendor being showcased was Elizabeth Ford who was a New York hat designer who leased space out at Denholms. The origional hatboxes were gold and white striped, with a gold rope handle. I remember my grandmothers closet full of these hat boxes. recently I was able to locate one at a Wrentham antique store.
Until the next post I would like to wish you all a very Happy easter!
Christopher

Hi Christopher,
ReplyDeleteI saw this Denholm's sewing machine on Craigslist and thought you might be interested. It's in Pittsfield.

I worked in the window display department at Denholm's from 1955 till '57 or '58. My boss was Eric Hallback, who I'm sure was responsible for this beautiful display. Lots of pleasant memories from those days!

By any chance do you have any pictures of the windows you did do?
DeleteNo, I'm sorry but I don't. I wish I did, though. We did some beautiful displays. As I got better at my job, Eric actually let me do a few displays on my own, which I thought was pretty special. I know they weren't as good as his, but they must have been okay because he didn't change them.
DeleteI thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful. Window Replacements Virginia
