Pat Wolf's presentation about Denholm's at the Whitinsville Library this past Monday night was very enjoyable. The information was so interesting, and Pat's delivery style was very appealing.
ReplyDeleteWe in the audience were able to relive many of those good ol' days when Worcester was a great place to shop, a magnet for shoppers. One couple mentioned that they still have and are storing the George Washinton bedspread that they bought at Denholm's. I brought in a photo of a former Northbridge Junior High School math teacher who worked Wednesday nights and Saturdays in the men's leather and jewelry department near one of the front doors.
I received your book as a Christmas present in 2011. After hearing Pat, I am anxious to reread it...with new insight.
Mr. Wolf's motto, "Keep smiling", was a good one; I think he would be happy to know how many smiles and chuckles there were Monday night as we listened to his daughter Pat.
Now that I'm aware of your blog, I will drop in regularly. May you have the best of luck and great success in your preservation endeavors. How about trying to get that beautiful Christmas tree on the front of the building lit again in December; it would definitely add to the ambiance of Main St. as people attend events at the Hanover Theater and as people celebrate First Night.
Pat is amazing! I am so glad you enjoyed here presentation. I hope that the book and this blog brings back more fond memories again. And yes, I would love to do the tree of lights on the building!!!
DeleteAll my best to you, and thanks for dropping by my blog.
Chris
Enjoyed your presentation last night at Denholm's. Sorry that I couldn't stay until the end. Is Amazon the best place to buy?
DeleteHi Paula! Thanks so much for attending last night. For local options, you can purchase the book at the Worcester Historical Museum, the Worcester library, Tatnuck booksellers, as well as amazon.com. I hope that it brings back some wonderful memories for you!
ReplyDeleteI did so on Amazon. Now where can I get the tote? Thank you Chris.
ReplyDeleteThanks for buying the book! The tote I had made custom but I can reproduce one if you are interested?
ReplyDeleteBest
Chris
Would love one if it's not too pricey. Thank you.
DeleteHi Paula, email me at denholms1@yahoo.com and I can show you image options. I think it was $25.00
DeleteEnjoyed the presentation given by Chris Sawyer last night (3/20). Brought back memories of going to see Santa, getting my Cub Scout stuff and always hearing a dinging overhead. (never knew what the dinging was for) I have an 8" x 10" oil painting on canvas that my parents bought. There is no name on the front, but on the back there is a label that reads Denholm & McKay Co. Worcester Massachusetts Picture Galleries and it's numbered. I wonder if local artists sold their painting there? Rich
ReplyDeleteHi Rich, thank you so much for coming to the presentation, and I am glad you enjoyed it. Denholms did by some art locally as well as throughout the country as well as Europe. I would advise getting it appraised as recently a painting bought at Denholms went for $151,000.
ReplyDeletegood luck!
